Improve your LinkedIn profile: Social Selling Index and more

This week we are talking about how you can best optimise your personal profile on the world’s largest professional network, LinkedIn.

Now, we all know that LinkedIn is probably important… but let’s revisit why!

If you’re anyone who has a job, owns a company or has anything to do with the working world, it’s important that you have your LinkedIn profile properly optimized and showing a significant amount of use through building connections, sharing content and perhaps even solidifying your voice in your industry where like-minded professionals are watching.

As a small business owner, LinkedIn is an especially good source for discovering leads, improving your relationship with your clients, and connecting with other professionals.

It is also incredibly useful for personal branding.

You probably already knew this, but did you know that LinkedIn offers a tool to measure your professional brand?

The Social Selling Index (SSI) measures how effective you are at establishing your professional brand, finding the right people, engaging with insights, and building relationships. It is updated daily. You can access it here.

Let’s have a look at how to improve your score and 6 easy ways to optimise your profile.

1. Publish new content regularly, comment, share and interact with other users

Also follow relevant groups and interact with other professionals in your field to gain useful insights and increase your profile’s visibility.

2. Talk about your personal experience

“People do not buy goods or services. They buy relations, stories and magic” said Seth Godin. As marketers, we know how important it is to also show the human side of a business, as it adds value to it. You can talk about your personal development, the soft skills you gained in and outside the workplace.

3. Use your profile cover to promote your personal brand

Your profile cover is the first thing people see when they look at your profile, so it can be used to draw focus to your achievements, key skills, qualifications etc.

4. Refresh the content on your “About” section

You can add your website, your most recent blog articles, case studies, and other content to improve your reputation.

5. Use LinkedIn as a search engine to help you identify the keywords of your positioning

When you write a post, LinkedIn suggests some hashtags. Make a list of all the most relevant keywords to your business to be used in your posts.

6. Promote your brand or company on your personal profile to show the human side of your business

Reshare your company content on your profile to increase reach and improve the chance to appear in front of potential clients.

Pick one of these tips and try it for at least one month, then measure your progress using the Social Selling Index to see the results.
