The latest social media updates in Q2 2024

You probably understand the challenges of staying consistent on social media. Add the never-ending social media updates to the mix and you might be ready to pull your hair out! If only there were a way for you to access the latest social media updates… 

That’s why in this post, we’re exploring the latest social media updates in Q2 2024 so you can feel less social mediARGH and more social mediaaaaaaah… 

LinkedIn 

As we all know, LinkedIn is the trailblazer of professional profiles and B2B marketing. That’s why it’s important to take note of these updates… 

Premium Company Pages  

This is one of the biggest changes to LinkedIn in a long time, so users should be ready for its arrival. It’s a subscription that is charged per company page and unlocks a range of features to help boost your online presence including: 

  • Custom call-to-action button 
  • Visitor list 
  • Custom testimonial (client quote and an image at the top of the page) 
  • AI-powered post writing assistance 
  • Auto-Invites (automatically invites people who interact with your content to follow your page) 
  • LinkedIn Premium logo 

This paid feature is currently being rolled out and will be available to all users in the near future. 

We’re particularly excited about the auto-invite feature as this has the potential to speed up the growth of audience with minimal effort. 

Services pages 

If you’re a LinkedIn Premium user, you can now take advantage of the services page. This is a standalone page, similar to a company page, but is a dedicated space where you can promote your services. You can invite previous clients to review your services, add further details about each service, and upload an eye-catching thumbnail that shows on your profile. To activate a services page, go to ‘Add Profile Section’ on your paid LinkedIn account and then ‘Add Services’ – simple!  

AI-powered writing tool 

We’ve all been there… You click ‘Start a post’ on your LinkedIn profile with a great post topic in mind, then all of a sudden you have no idea how to articulate it. You can now take advantage of LinkedIn’s AI-powered post writing assistant! This will help you to overcome writer’s block and create good quality drafts – just be sure the read it over and make any required edits. 

Instagram

With Instagram’s visually-driven content taking first place on many people’s preferred list of social platforms, here’s what you need to know about recent updates… 

Message editing 

Ever posted on Instagram and noticed you have one of those annoying typos straight after posting? Well, great news! You can now edit messages up to 15 minutes after posting. 

Chat pinning 

Pin up to three group or individual chats for easy access and use the new read receipts toggle to see who reads your message (there’s also an option to turn read receipts off).  

New ‘favourite’ options 

You can now save your favourite stickers, GIFs, videos, photos and voice messages. This will be useful for businesses that create Instagram content within the app.  

Notify stickers 

You can now add a ‘Notify’ sticker to your Instagram stories. Once clicked, your loyal followers can get direct notifications every time you publish new content. 

Individual carousel comments/replies 

In the near future, you’ll be able to comment on and reply to individual carousel images. Yes, we’re interested to see how this works too. It’ll definitely open up some new opportunities for engagement! 

Simpler hashtags 

Instagram is making it easier to connect with communities and potential customers. Their simpler hashtag experience allows users to follow specific hashtags, ensuring they see content relevant to their interests. Users can also receive notifications when someone uses their followed hashtags. 

Ad promo codes 

Instagram Ads now provide the opportunity to offer promo codes in post captions that automatically apply at checkout. This should help to boost the conversion rates by making the customer journey so much easier.  

Facebook 

Although many businesses have moved away from posting on Facebook, the platform isn’t going anywhere. Here are the latest Q2 updates… 

Trends for 2024  

The top six trends you can expect to see on Facebook in this quarter are privacy, community, e-commerce, immersive experiences, video content and artificial intelligence. Despite seeming like Facebook are innovating in many areas, it’ll be interesting to see the outcomes of each trend this year. 

Stories and Reels in groups 

Short-form content is more important than ever, which is why you can now publish Stories and Reels directly in Facebook groups. This aligns with two of the trends mentioned in the previous point: community and video content, which demonstrates the type of updates we may see from Facebook in the future. 

Screen Smart Program

This new feature will help parents navigate conversations with their families around safe device usage. 

Full screen video player 

Facebook will soon be launching an updated full screen video player for all video types (Reels, longer videos, live streams, etc.). These videos will all have a consistent design and you’ll also see more relevant video recommendations, regardless of length.

Made with AI 

With AI continuously changing and evolving, Facebook are updating their previous AI policy set in 2020. This will result in a wider range of content, including videos, audio and images being labelled as ‘made with AI’ when AI is detected.  

TikTok 

TikTok has been at the forefront of short-form video for a while now, which is why you can expect many innovations from them to stay at the top. Here are some updates in Q2 2024… 

TikTok Notes 

Introducing a NEW social media platform! TikTok Notes is currently being tested in Australia and Canada and the app will be a direct competitor to Instagram. Users will have a dedicated space for photo and text content and will have the option to post a headline on the photo. The familiar TikTok ‘Following’ and ‘For You’ tabs will also present and it will use recommendations based on the TikTok algorithm. 

Creator Search Insights 

This tool could be key in boosting discoverability. Creators will be able to search for key search terms and it will show the exact terms being used by users and the percentages in that niche. You can then add these search terms to your video titles, captions and hashtags to ensure your content shows up in front of your target audience.  

AXS partnership 

Do you host events? This might be a useful update for you! TikTok has announced a partnership with AXS, the leader in global ticketing, which will allow fans to purchase tickets within the platform. 

TikTok usage stats 

To end this section, here’s a staggering statistic: TikTok users spend an average of 95 minutes a day on the app (compared to 62 minutes a day for Instagram users). This demonstrates the pull that short-form video has!  

X 

Formerly known as Twitter, X has seen some extreme changes since Elon Musk’s takeover back in April 2022. Here are the latest updates you should be aware of… 

Creator subscriptions 

Engaged followers can now subscribe to their favourite creators which will provide an extra level of access and content. To be eligible for a subscription account, creators must have been active in the past 30 days, be over 18 and have at least 500 followers. They’ll then receive a share of the revenue X earns from the subscription. 

Hosting conferences on X Spaces 

Spaces is a tool on X that allows users to have live audio conversations. X are currently working on hosting conferences using this platform which may introduce more immersive and interactive experiences on the platform.  

Bot activity and engagement farming spam

Bot activity has increased and overall user experience has suffered over the past 12 months. Additionally, there has been a surge in engagement farming since the launch of monetisation last year which X are taking steps to combat. 

Threads competition 

With the performance on X decreasing many brands are stepping away from X and focusing their efforts on Instagram Threads. Many of them have found more success on Threads and have found it to be much more user friendly. Brand/PR agencies have even started to remove X from their media packages altogether.
